Program Report

Laporan ini memuat perjalanan berbagai proyek kolaboratif yang dijalankan Seni Tani sebagai bentuk kontribusi terhadap sistem pangan berkelanjutan di kota Bandung.

The “Imperfect Vegetables” Campaign to Prevent Food Waste
Often seen as unappealing due to their unusual shapes, imperfect or sub-optimal vegetables are frequently wasted. Their odd appearance makes them less desirable to consumers, resulting in significant food waste despite having the same nutritional value as regular-shaped vegetables. To tackle this issue, Seni Tani partnered with Agriani Hermita Sadeli, a lecturer at Padjadjaran University (UNPAD) in Bandung, West Java. This collaboration began when Vania, Director of Seni Tani, participated in the Australia Awards Short Course on Sustainable Agri-food Systems organized by the University of Adelaide in 2022. Through this Award Project, we discovered that Seni Tani experiences a surplus of imperfect vegetables amounting to 20 to 30%, or 30 to 40 kilograms each month. To address this and reduce food waste, Seni Tani, together with Agi and Vania, launched a campaign in Bandung to educate the community on the safety and equal nutritional value of imperfect vegetables compared to regular ones. This campaign reached 80 kindergarten and elementary school children, along with 136 adults, including housewives and UNPAD students.

Tani Bestari (Knowledgeable Farming) : Urban Farming Training for City Youth to Become Urban Farmers
Fifteen selected young men and women living in Bandung participated in this six-month Urban Farming training program, with eight of them being women. Through the training, participants created three garden designs and harvested a total of 37.86 kg of vegetables. They also produced 242 kg of compost from 500 kg of processed organic waste.Tani Bestari : Pelatihan Urban Farming untuk Pemuda Kota menjadi Petani Kota
